Rules

Individuals ONLY!

Costumes from all genres (video game, comic book, anime, movies, television, etc.) and mash-ups are acceptable.

The majority of the cosplay needs to be made to be made by the entrant. Mashups and original designs are also permitted. While most of your costume must be homemade, found item costumes and modified items are acceptable.
Submission Requirements
All materials must be uploaded through the Fanfaire portal on or before the event on May 14, 11:59pm EST.

Factsheet to include:

Name of entrant and Instagram address

Contact info—email address and telephone number

Age of entrant
-
Name of character and fandom.

A brief written introduction in the third person, maximum 100 words.
-
A detailed description of your Cosplay, maximum 250 words.

Portfolio

One (1) character reference photo
-
A photo of the finished cosplay
-
Up to three (3) progress photos
-
One (1) full body complete photo of you in costume to be displayed in our online gallery.

Video
No video or photos may be filmed illegally, or without the consent of the person in the video. You must also have permission from your photographer or videographer before submitting your video.

One video 60 seconds or less in length
Criteria
Judges will use a 10-point scale to assess factors such as:

Accuracy—resemblance to character, as applicable
-
Uniqueness—positive factors that distinguish the design from others
-
Craftsmanship—quality vs functionality, handmade, effort shown, prop durability
-
Presentation—confidence, posture, portrayal

Then this is the contest for you. We want to see you embody your cosplay alter-ego. Couples and groups are welcome. #werk

Entrants must wear and showcase the costume.

GENERAL RULES
-
There is an entrant limit of 30 entries per contest.
-
Entrants must submit all required submission materials by the deadline May 14, 2021 11:59pm EST
-
By entering the contest, the entrant allows Fanfaire and the High School of Art and Design to use images for promotional purposes.
-
All masks and costumes worn with the masks (if you choose to wear an accompanying costume) must be family friendly and adhere to Fanfaire’s regular dress code policies.
-
No entries may contain religious, political, insulting, or offensive statements. We utilize the following definition of offensive cosplays: cosplays that incite violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, transphobia, ageism, and bigotry. This includes race-facing (e.g. Blackface/Brownface) as well as costumes that replicate, or make light of historic or current international or national tragedies (this includes depictions of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in any way).

All entrants must be 14 and up by the submission deadline of the virtual contest.

Fanfaire staff are not eligible to compete in the competition.
-
Fanfaire contest coordinators reserve the right to make any changes to the contest rules and guidelines if the need arises.
DRESS CODE
-
No nudity. No costume is not a costume and will not be accepted.
-
No profanity allowed in the video. That includes messages on signs or clothes.
-
NO GUNS
REGISTRATION
-
Entry fee is $25 for TECHNICAL, with a special discount for HSAD students $15, and $25 for MASQUERADE.
-
The costume contest is limited to 30 contestants for TECHNICAL and 30 for MASQUERADE.

Registration opens on May 2 at 5:00pm EST, all requested materials must be uploaded by May 14 and 11:59pm EST.
